Tim became a disciple of the great tabla master Pt. Sharda Sahai of Banaras in 1972 and has been performing and teaching since 1976.

His teaching experience includes Berklee School of Music (1976-80), New England Conservatory (1979-1981), Brown University Ethnomusicology Department (1976-1980), University of Miami School of Music Percussion Department (1981-1991)
